Although this content differs from my usual fitness wear content, my inner yogi and health fanatic love creating and using natural skincare products. I have tried and tested hundreds of skincare products which haven’t produced the lasting results I have experienced using natural remedies. These remedies are great as they are effective at easing any skin condition and aren’t too harsh on one’s skin. Quite frankly, these masks are good enough to eat! I will be sharing my top 5 Face Masks and how to make each one. Remember to leave your face mask to soak into your skin for a good 15 – 30 min.

(PS: if you’re not one for making your own natural remedies, I would recommend checking out the South African brand Lula & Marula. They have an amazing skincare range made from natural ingredients.)

• Honey Cinnamon Vanilla Mask – this is my go to mask that reduces the appearance of acne scars and decreases inflammation on the top layer of your skin. Cinnamon is also an amazing inflammatory spice and as for the vanilla, who doesn’t love the smell of it?

• Banana Coconut Mask – A nourishing and hydrating mask to reduce dryness and leave your skin feeling soft, youthful and refreshed. All you need is to mash 1 very ripe spotty banana with a teaspoon of coconut oil.

• Oatmeal Mask – A simple but effective at removing impurities and dead skin cells. Mix 2tbsp oats with warm water and leave to dry on face.

• Cacoa Spirilina Mask – This mask combines superfoods with a dash of olive oil to revitalise and replenish your skin. This mask is a real gem for those with sensitive skin. Mix  1tsp of cocoa and spirilina with some olive oil. You want to ensure you have a relatively thick consistency – not runny!

• Apple Cider Vinegar Turmeric Mask – Works best on oily skin types. Controls the secretion of oils and reduces the inflammatory red look of acne.

Spiritgirl is a company which specialises in producing yoga leggings made from recycled plastic bottles. They also have a range of coordinated workout tops and bodysuits. Since I consider myself a legging queen, this review will be centred around the two pairs of Spiritgirl leggings I own.

I have the ‘Graceful Deer’ leggings and the ‘Space Cowgirl’ leggings. I own both pairs in the size XS. The leggings are true to size. The fit is very flattering and on me they are slightly high waisted – keep in mind that I am a very short individual with a stature of about 5ft. The leggings are very durable and I am thouroughly impressed with the quality. I have had both pairs for over a year now and they are still in great condition.

The colours and prints on the Spiritgirl leggings are out of this world. I receive compliments on them very often. They are very comfotable and breathable; so you never feel like super sweaty and like the sweat is unable to escape. This material is super stretchy and won’t dig in to your skin and give you unflattering love handles. They also are not see-through which is a huge bonus! Youy can stretch, bend and twist wearing these leggings and they won’t budge or show any awkward lines and wrinkels. The details on the leggings are impeccable! Inside the front waistband, they have printed a different inspirational quote in each style of legging.

Spiritgirl is also a great company to support if you have any interest in environmental issues. Not only are their clothing made form recycled PET but they also have a range of ‘I AM WATER’ leggings which contributes to ocean conversation education upon purchase.

I am also very impressed with the customer servicce and fast shipping when ordering from Spiritgirl. You can shop on their website and take about 2-4 business days to ship domestically. Orders over R1000 will receive shipping if the shipments is being delivered locally. They do offer international shipping and detailed information regarding the cost of international shipping can be found on their FAQ section on their website. I know what you’re thinking: there must be some catch or drawback to these products. They just can’t be this amazing, can they? There are only two slightly negative things I’d have to say and they would be that the stitching on the leggings tends to get a little fluffy over time and I handwash my leggings. But fair enough, I’ve had them for quite some time! Secondly, quality does not come cheap! The leggings cost R950 per pair but I think that is justifiable. After all, they have costs to cover, they are a relatively small business and these designs are custom made with quality materials.

Overall, I like to buy quality when it comes to my leggings. I won’t compromise on the design and material of the product. I do, however, love that I can contribute to the world environmentally as well as support some local businesses. Anyways, this was just my two-cents.
